From the survey, it has been acquired that out of the selected 250 participants, 198 participants agreed that they like shopping online while 52 participants should resistance towards online shopping. From the responses’ it is noted that most of the participants like shopping online. Coffee Shops Essay Whenever I am in need to study or just want to find a place to hangout, what instantly springs to my mind is a coffee shop. There are many different coffee shops around me, but only one is my absolute favorite. My favorite coffee shop is Beca House. Beca House is a locally owned business and is only about twelve minutes from my house. It is the coziest little nook, where I usually spend my mornings before class eating breakfast and drinking my favorite espresso coffee drink. After all, coffee is the best way to wake up and get the body moving. As I walk into Beca House every morning, the strong bitter aroma of ground coffee beans drift through the air, soaking into my clothes as I make my way to the counter to place my order. The smell was circulating because the coffee bar is located near the left side of the shop. The first attraction for me was the baked goods. They are tidily placed in the transparent glass cabinet, lining up and waiting for me to eat them all. There were all different types of baked goods like muffins, streusels, cheesecakes, cookies, and biscotti’s. Up above near the ceiling of the bar, there were an assortment of coffee beans packed into brown bags. The barista takes my order, large campfire frappe, double espresso. On a cooler day, I order a hot vanilla cappuccino. The delicious smell of coffee generates from the espresso machines. There is also a blackboard on the counter near the menu with a quote written with chalk that will change from day to day. The barista hands me my custom beverage order, and I stroll back to the front of the coffee shop to find a place to get comfortable. All along the walls of the shop are strategically placed vintage paintings and inspirational quotes. Dim lights shine on the spaced out vintage furniture, making for a very soothing and quiet atmosphere. No two pieces of furniture are the same, big couches, small wooden chairs, dark colored pillows, and rustic end tables. I like admiring this type of environment: soothing and calming, yet still inviting. In comparison to most restaurants, coffee shops are by no means a noisy place. The sound of chatters and laughter blends together with the background music playing around the shop, and the volume is set at a medium tone. Coffee shops provide a comfortable, yet sociable gathering spot for people of all ages. I often find peers of my own studying for big tests, writing papers, or maybe just reading a new book and relaxing. The Beca House is my favorite part to my day. I cannot start without it. Even on days that I do not have class, I find myself getting my daily cup of coffee at the crack of dawn, just before work. Stopping at Beca House has become part of my daily routine, and I do not see it being cut out any time soon. I know I go there a lot when the barista’s know my order when I walk through the door. There’s something so perfect about it being just me, my thoughts, and my morning cup of coffee.

The legalization of driving while intoxicated would severely reduce the numbers of crimes that are committed on the roads. The number of illegal actions occurring on the roads would be reduced by the number of people that used to break the law by driving while drunk. Allowing people to drive drunk would also reduce the number of accidents occurring on the road systems. For example, only twenty percent of all auto accidents involve a person who has been drinking, where as almost all accidents involve someone who has not been drinking. Removing the restrictions against drinking would remove most of the eighty percent of the accidents that do not involve alcohol. Also, the accidents that would still be occurring would not have as many injuries. Out of the accidents that involve alcohol the person who has been drinking is usually the one who survives the accident, often with out a scratch. Allowing people who have been drinking to drive would also improve the quality of life for those who choose not to drink. Currently people who have been drinking are legally required to use some form of transportation other than them operating a motor vehicle. This requires them to hang around where they are and get a ride with someone else or wait or some public transportation. With the legalization of driving while drunk the non-drinking population would not need to be bothered by drunk people that do not have rides. Finally, this would help stimulate the economy which may be in dire trouble. Portrayal of Women in Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Bram stoker, in Dracula, showed his point of view of women. He represented Mina as a traditional woman who is quite passive and submissive. On the other hand, he represented Lusy and the three beautiful vampires who are active, voluptuous and sexually aggressive. When he was born in 1850s, the era of â€Å"Victorian Noon†, the society was about to face the radical changes in the culture and politics so the position of women who were educated was getting improved in the society.However, Bram stoker was a conservative and stressed paternalism so he considered ‘New Woman' as a depravity person. On the contrary, he emphasized the traditional victorian woman. Furthermore, he expressed his hostile feeling against women. â€Å"for nothing can be more dreadful than those awful women, who were, waiting to suck my blood. â€Å"(p74, line15~16), â€Å"I am alone in the castle with those horrible women, Faugh! Mina is a woman, and there is nought in common. They are devils of the Pit! â€Å"(p87, paragraph 6).From these sentences, we can see that Jonathan Harker abhors the three young women. It seems that Bram stoker detests the New Women. The group of people who called ‘New Woman' acted so free and had a sexual relationship with not only men but also the same gender so that it brought about other social aftermaths such as venereal disease and homosexuality. In terms of conservatism, he regarded ‘New Woman', considered a threatening group in the society, as immoral and anti-religious so it must be destroyed.Also, he insisted that men had to got power to control those women and dominated the society. In conclusion, the society in which Bram Stoker lived has shown a movement to accept both sides of the conservative which advocates the past values and the progressive which incessantly changes for new values. I think that he did not just blame the new woman, but the imperialism which means ‘continuously developing the society using the powerf ul science'.

Mexican Atmospheres essays When I visited Mexico for the first time I remember thinking that it was not the third world country that everyone had described to me. After a couple of days there and a little more venturing into Mexico I realized that it was really everything that had been described. While we were in the vacation areas and hotel resorts the atmosphere was very nice. They are decorated with festive ornaments, they play loud music, have plenty of gift shops, and many attractions for people to see. When we ventured outside of these areas things took a drastic turn from pretty and festive to dirty and poverty stricken. I realized that the pretty images that Hollywood gives people of Mexico is only true in certain places, and that it is actually a third world country. When we arrived in Mexico at the airport I really could not tell that it was a third world country. The one thing that really caught my attention while at the airport was that it was not air conditioned. The airport was dreadfully hot, not humid, just a very dry heat. I remember while standing in the customs line I was sweating as though I had been running a marathon. I was sweating so much that my shirt was sticking to me. The airport was decorated nicely with a mural of sea animals painted on ocean colored walls. The airport was very similar to the airports I was used to in America. It had all sorts of gift shops, restaurants and many stands with brochures of places to visit while in Mexico. The ride to the hotel was also very nice, and the scenery did not appear to be that much different than here in America. The roads were paved, much like ours, but there were swamps all around us that reminded me of the Everglades in Florida. The bus had most of the luxuries that our buses have and one additional feature that I was really not accustomed to. It had a cooler that was filled with Coronas and bottled water for sale. How AP Classes Can Waste Your Time: 5 Scenarios Taking AP classes can be helpful for a variety of reasons. But if you slack off, don't get much out of the material, or (worst of all) fail the exam, the AP program loses a lot of its benefits. In this section, we give you some reasons why the AP program might not be the best choice, and offer tips for making the most of your schedule. Scenario 1: You Fail the AP Test While an AP class isn’t a total waste if you fail the test- you still get the academic experience of a harder class, after all- it’ll be much less beneficial. As we discussed, you need a passing score in order to get college credit for an AP class.Without a passing test score, your AP class will be a lot less useful. What's more, colleges will look to see whether you passed the AP test. If you didn't pass, the AP class loses a lot of its admissions benefit. Even (or especially!) if you get an A in the class, that would just mean your class was too easy compared with those in the rest of the country. In short, how good an AP class will be for you hinges on whether you pass the exam or not. Scenario 2: AP Classes Ruin Your GPA Even if you pass your AP tests, if AP classes dramatically drag down your GPA, they won't be worth taking. Colleges want to see that you’re taking the hardest classes available to you, but they also want to see that you’re mostly succeeding and that you know your limits! This doesn’t mean that getting an A- in Calculus BC is a bad thing, though. (In fact, an A- in Calculus BC is more impressive than an A in regular Calculus.) What this does mean isthat taking four AP classes and getting Cs in all of them will not look good. As a general rule, don’t worry about an AP class knocking your usual grades down one half step- that is, an A to an A-, or an A- to a B+. But if you see a full grade drop, even in one class (A to B, B to C, etc.) that’s cause for concern. You should either make serious changes to your study schedule or, if you continue to struggle, consider dropping down to the regular course. This is why not overloading and knowing your strengths is important when signing up for classes! Scenario 3: You Don't Get Much Out Of the Class Even if you pass an AP class and the test, if you personally feel like you didn’t learn much or if the class didn’t improve your study skills, it might not have been worth it. Even if you get college credit for a particular class, it won't be worth it if you decide to take the same version of that class in college. It’s also not worth it if the class doesn’t significantly improve your studying or academic skills. Since all AP classes have a pretty big cost in terms of time, if they’re not serving to develop your academic interests or improve your skills, they’re likely not worth taking. This effect is more dramatic if you’re overloading on AP classes: the fourth AP class you take in a year might not add as much to your skills as it’s taking away from your time. For example, if you’re heading toward a humanities major in college (English, Economics, Political Science, etc.), trying to cram in AP Statistics and AP Calculus your senior year might not be helpful. You’re not likely to do a lot of deep learning in either math class if you’re also busy with college applications and other commitments. And if you don’t do well in these math classes, you might have to retake one in college anyway. Or, let's say you’re a future computer science major going out of your way to fit in an AP Human Geography class, just so you can have another AP class. This, however, likely won’t add much to your schedule, and if it’s not a personal interest, you probably won’t get much out of it. To sum up, if you're taking an AP class just because it's AP, you should reconsider taking it. You don't want to be this guy. Scenario 4: AP Classes Become Your Main Extracurricular While AP classes can be great- academically rigorous, cost effective, interesting- if they’re taking away from the rest of your schedule, those benefits begin to shrink. For example, if you neglect studying for the SAT/ACT because you’re so busy with AP classes, this can really hurt your college admission chances. We strongly recommend taking adequate time to study for the SAT/ACT, since having a high score can greatly boost your college admission and scholarship chances. Furthermore, if you stop getting involved in extracurriculars because you’re too busy studying, that doesn’t help your college applications, either. We’re not saying you need to be a perfectly well-rounded student who's in 10 clubs. But we do think it’s important to a have a few strongly developed interests- and overloading on AP classes can take away from that. In short, AP classes should enhance your schedule and indicate your academic interests- they shouldn't be your chief extracurricular. Scenario 5: You Burn Out in High School Even if you do really well in all your AP classes, you need to have the big picture in mind. If you graduate senior year completely exhausted and struggle your freshman year of college, you’re setting yourself up for a substandard college experience. Remember that the goal of AP classes- and high school in general!- is to be prepared to do well in college. Taking one less AP class but staying more sane and balanced might actually help you more in college than overloading your schedule with APs. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your AP schedule, don’t feel bad about dropping an AP class. If dropping that class allows you to do better in your other classes and stick to your commitments, it will be better for you in the long run. You don't want to be running on empty during your freshman year of college! Next Steps: Should You Take AP Classes? As you know, AP classes can give a huge boost to your college applications, but they can also hurt your college chances if you're not careful. So how do you make sure you're getting the most out of your AP classes? Follow the steps below to make sure your AP schedule is challenging but not overwhelming. Step 1: Learn the Reputation of AP Classes at Your School Learning the reputation of AP classes at your high school can help you decide if taking certain AP classes is worth your time. There is a huge amount of variation in how AP classes are taught at different high schools. You'll struggle if an AP class is poorly taught or overly difficult. On the flipside, a well-taught class might not only help you pass the AP test, but also help you discover a new academic interest. Talk to your guidance counselor, older students, and other teachers at your school to get a sense of which AP classes have positive buzz- and which ones have a reputation of being overly hard or poorly taught. With this in mind, and that caring is the essence of nursing practice, my career path goals were outlined and focused on concept of education , health and care. My perspectives and beliefs about nursing as a profession have been gradually developed throughout the years by the influence of many, mentorship, education and by long years of clinical experience. Beliefs Nursing. Nurses help and care for the sick or well, and promote health with skills, expertise and knowledge. The American Nurses Association (ANA) defines nursing as â€Å"the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.† We nurses are focused and educated to provide the most holistic care to individuals and family with actual and/or potential health problem. (ANA, 2009). Our commitment is to assist individuals/clients efforts to reach their optimal health potential. Client. Client can be the individual, family, group, organization or communities that have innate abilities, resources, experiences and values that guide decision-making regarding health issues.† (University of Kansas School of Nursing, 2001). Kings’ theory emphasizes the importance of client participation in the decision-making and deal with choices, alternatives and outcomes of care (cited by P arker, 2006). Nurses need to understand how individual/clients choose and accept responsibility when they are their health decision-maker. Health. Health is the client optimal state of wellness. The World Health Organization defines health as â€Å"a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.† Leininger defined health as â€Å"state of well-being that is culturally defined, valued, and practiced and reflects the ability of individuals or groups to perform their daily role activities in culturally expressed, beneficial and patterned ways (cited by Parker, 2006). The individual/ client health is intrinsic interacted with his/her environment. Environment. Newman defines environment as â€Å"all internal and external factors or influences surrounding the identified client or client system (cited by Parker, 2006).† Martha Rogers’ Science of Unitary Human Beings proposed that the client and their environment are integral with one another in a continuous process (Blais et al, 2002). When nurses apply Rogers’ theory in their practice, they holistic focus on the person as a whole and promote and integrate care between the client and his/her environment. It is my belief that environment greatly influences a client’s health and her/his perception of health and it is in continuous and creative changes. My career goals were outlined in the perspective of changes and advancement of my profession and a more competent professional nurse. Goals Short-term. My immediate short- term goals as soon as school is over, is to be oriented as day House Supervisor in the facility where I work. It will be a cross-training position, since I am not planning to leave the clinical area anytime soon. This new position will be parallel to my actual position as telemetry charge nurse. My second goal is to finish St David HCA academy leadership classes by the end of this year. I believe that these short-term goals will pave my career path and give me the foundation to accomplish my long-term goals Long-term. I have two long-term goals that I am planning to accomplish by 2012. First, I am planning to be Austin Community College Nurse School’s clinical instructor assistant to start in January of 2010. Also, next year, I would like to apply and be accepted in a â€Å"Developmental Teaching Program† that the University Of Texas (UT), with the collaboration of St David HCA and Seton Hospital, organized to help and assist employees who are interested in advancing their education into a master’s program and be involved with teaching. Each hospital accepts fifteen qualified employees per semester and the program consists of three teaching classes at master level. Planning my career and setting up goals beyond being a bedside nurse was not an easy step. It was finalized/ concreted by the influence and support of friends and my family Critical Analysis Beliefs. My beliefs about nursing were influenced especially by my husband and by one of my lifetime friends. Both taught me that nursing is a profession that one never stops learning and learning is the only way to acquire knowledge to improve and excel as a professional. I also have an enthusiastic mentor that instructs and encourages me to expand my knowledge in other areas of nursing rather than just being a bedside nurse. My beliefs in my career, also, have been greatly influenced by my mother who continuously reminds me to always put myself in the patient’s place before any decision or judgment is done. Through it, she taught me what compassion and true care means. Besides the people mentioned above, there are many others that in one way or another influenced and shaped my beliefs about nursing. Career Choice. Nursing has been my only profession. I got my ADN diploma through Florence Nightingale Nursing School, the only England Nurse School in my country. So, once in the U.S, I went back to nursing school and got my ADN. My career choice happened long before I even finished high school. My father was very sick for a long time and very often I would go with him to the hospital for doctors’ appointments or just to the emergency room. During those times my heart would go to those sick people lying down on the ground outside the hospital waiting for an available doctor or a nurse to see them, and, most of the time it would not happen so soon. Some of these people would stay for a day or two in the heat, hungry, thirsty, dirty and in pain. Against my mother orders, (because we did not have much), I started to bring food, and water to those people and I would apply butter to their wounds to keep them wet ( I had seen the old women in the farm doing it). When I really decided to go the nurse school, I was not sure about it. I told my mother that would try it because I did not want to be anything back then. Once I started nursing school, I was totally in love with it. Indirectly, my father led me to my current career path that I feel fulfilled me as a professional. Current Career Path. I have been a nurse for six years. Since my graduation, I have been working as a telemetry nurse/charge nurse. But through these years I have been working in all med/surg floors, step-down ICU and ER. I like cardiology the most. It is a fast pace unit and can be very challenging. In this unit I am able to advise and encourage patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and that I work with a team that together provides optimal care to those with cardiac diseases. All these years as an ADN I was comfortable as it was until two years ago, when my husband and my mentor encouraged me to advance my education at least to the BSN level. And, I am glad that I did it. The RN-BSN bridge program was essential in expanding my knowledge and therefore improved my nurse practice. Impact of RN-BSN Program on Nursing and Career The Texas Tech University health Sciences Center School of Nursing program has had a great impact in my profession and career path. Through this program I have been learning more about evidence-based practice, theories and nursing practice than I did in all those years in the ADN schools. Now, for example, when I look at a medication(s), read or do a procedure on a patient , I am more aware of the importance of research and evidence-based practice and why I (we) do things in certain order or way. â€Å"By exploring concepts such as: evidence-based practice, professional development, life-long learning, community health, nursing theories, research, mentorship, current issues facing nursing and many more I now see nursing form a larger perspective (Harmon, 2009).† This program expanded my knowledge, enhanced my practice and thus, effectively improves my patient’s outcomes. Through this program I became a stronger and more complete nurse. It taught me the discipline of nursing practice is guided by theories and models that can be applied to my daily practice. Nurse Model Jean Watsons theory of caring has profound impact in the practice of nursing. Caring is central to nursing; it is the central focus of practice. Foster, 2008 states that †¦Ã¢â‚¬ caring is to preserve human dignity, is to preserve humanity in systems and in society, increasingly awakening in nurses and nursing to realize they have a critical role in sustaining human caring and humanity itself, especially in instances where it is threatened.† Caring in my daily nurse practice underlies human values and beliefs that are essential in an individual/client or/and family basic needs. â€Å"The nursing response is a specific expression of caring nurturance to sustain and enhance the ‘other’ as he or she lives caring and grows in caring in the situation of concern (Buldin, 2005).† Through the theory of caring, I am more sensitive to express feeling of care and allow my clients, family and/or coworkers to express their own feeling of care. â€Å"Nursing can expand its existing role, continuing to make contributions to health care within the modern model by developing its foundational caring healing and health strengths that have always been present on the margin (Cara, 2003).† Caring is not a momentum, but a personal response. Conclusion My beliefs regarding the nursing profession and my goals were paved by people that continue and will continue to greatly and positively influence my personal and professional values. Difference of Squares of Two Natural Numbers One of the basic arithmetic operations is finding squares and difference between squares of two natural numbers. Though there are various methods to find the difference between squares of two natural numbers, still there are scopes to find simplified and easy approaches. A new method to find a2 b2 also has been introduced in some simple cases. This approach will help the secondary education lower grade students in identifying and recognizing number patterns and squares of natural numbers. Basic skills of mathematical applications in number systems used even in day to day life. Though calculators and computers have greater influences in calculations, still there is a need to find new easy methods of calculations to improve personal intellectual skills. As there has been growing interest, in mathematics education, in teaching and learning, many mathematicians build simple and different methods, rules and relationships in various mathematical field. Though various investigations have made important contributions to mathematics development and education (2), there still room for new research to clarify the mutual relationship between the numbers and number patterns. In natural numbers, various subsets have been recognized by ancient mathematicians. Some are odd numbers, prime numbers, oblong numbers, triangular numbers and squares. These numbers shall be identified by number patterns. Recognizing number patterns is also an important problem-solving skill. Working with number patterns leads directly to the concept of functions in mathematics: a formal description of the relationships among different quantities. One of the basic arithmetic operations is finding squares and difference between squares of two natural numbers. Already many proofs and relationships were identified and proved in finding difference between squares of two natural numbers. We use different methods to find the difference between squares of two natural numbers. That is, to find a2 b2. Though, this area of research may be discussed by early mathematicians and researchers in various aspects, still there are many interesting ways to discuss the same in teaching. Teaching number patterns in secondary level education is most important issue as the students develop their analytical and cognitive skills in this stage. Different arithmetic operations and calculations need to be introduced in such way that they help the students in lifelong learning. Easy and simplified approaches will support the students in logical reasoning. This paper tries to identify the general properties, special properties of finding difference between the squares of any two natural numbers using number patterns. Also, this paper tries to define the rhombus rule relationship between the sequences of numbers formed by the differences of squares of two natural numbers. A new method to find a2 b2 also has been introduced in some simple cases. These may be introduced in secondary school early grades, before introducing algebraic techniques of finding a2 b2 to develop the knowledge and understanding of number patterns. This will help to recognize and apply number patterns in further level. Literature Review To find the difference between the squares of any two natural numbers, we use different methods. Also, we use various rules to find the square of a natural number. Some properties were also been identified by the researchers and mathematicians. Methods used to find the difference between squares of two natural numbers Direct Method The difference between the squares of two natural numbers shall be found out by finding the squares of the numbers directly. Example: 252 52 = 625 25 = 600 Using algebraic rule The algebraic rule a2 b2 = (a b)(a + b) shall be applied to find the difference between the squares of two natural numbers. Example: 252 52 = (25 5)(25 + 5) = 20 x 30 = 600 Method when a b = 1(2) The difference between the squares of every two consecutive natural numbers is always an odd number, and that it is equal to the sum of these numbers. Example: 252 242 = 25 + 24 = 49 Methods used to find the square of a natural number Using Algebraic Method The algebraic rules shall be used to find the square of natural number other than the direct multiplication. In general, (a + b)2, (a b)2 are used to find the squares of a natural number from nearest whole number. Example: 992 = (100 1)2 = 1002 2(100)(1) + 12 = 10000 200 + 1 = 9801 Square of a number using previous number(8) The following rule may be applied to find the square of a number using previous number. (n + 1)2 = n2 + n + (n+1) Example: 312 = 302 + 30 + 31 = 900 + 30 + 31 = 961 The Gilbreth Method of finding square(9) The Gilbreth method uses binomial theorem to find the square of a natural number. The rule is n2 = 100(n 25) + (50 n)2 Example: 992 = 100(99 25) + (50 99)2 = 7400 + 2401 = 9801 Other than the above mentioned methods various methods are used based on the knowledge and requirements. Properties of differences between squares of the natural numbers 2.3.1. The difference between squares of any two consecutive natural numbers is always odd. To prove this property, let us consider two consecutive natural numbers, say 25 and 26 Now let us find 262 252 262 252 = (26 + 25)(26 25) [Using algebraic rule] = 51 x 1 = 51, an odd number 2.3.2. The difference between squares of any two alternative natural numbers is always even. To prove this property, let us consider two alternative natural numbers, say 125 and 127 Now let us find 1272 1252 1272 1252 = (127 + 125)(127 125) [Using algebraic rule] = 252 x 2 = 504, an even number Some other properties were also identified and discussed by various mathematicians and researchers. Number Patterns and Difference Between the Squares of Two Natural Numbers Discussions and Findings Some of the properties stated above shall be proved by using number pattern. Number patterns are interesting area of arithmetic that stimulates the logical reasoning. They shall be applied in various notations to identify the sequences and relations between the numbers. 3.1. Sample Table for the difference between squares of two natural numbers To find the properties and relations that are satisfied by the sequences formed by the differences between the squares of two natural numbers, let us form a number pattern. Then the sequence will be: 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and 36 Thus the sequence is a set of even numbers and multiples of 4 starting from 8. i.e., Difference 2: {x| x is an multiple of 4 greater than or equal to 8, x ÃŽ N} By proceeding this way, the sequences for other differences shall be formed. Let us represent the sequences in a table for discussion purposes. In Table 1, N is the natural number. S is the square of the corresponding natural number. D1 represents the difference between the squares of two consecutive natural numbers. That is, the difference between the numbers is 1. D2 represents the difference between the squares of two alternate natural numbers. That is, the difference between the numbers is 2. D3 represents the difference between the squares of 4th and 1st number. That is, the difference between the numbers is 3, and so on. 3.2. Relationship between the row elements of each column Now, let us discuss the relationship between the elements of rows and columns of the table. From the above table, Column D1 shows that the difference between squares of two consecutive numbers is odd. Column D2 shows that the difference between squares of two alternate numbers is even. The other columns show that the difference between the squares of two numbers is either odd or even. From the above findings, the following properties shall be defined for the difference between squares of any two natural numbers. 3.3. General Properties of the difference between squares of two natural numbers: The difference between squares of any two consecutive natural numbers is always odd. Proof: Column D1 proves this property. This may also be tested randomly for big numbers. Let us consider two digit consecutive natural numbers, say 96 and 97. For example, let us consider five digit two consecutive natural numbers, say 15887 and 15888. Then, 158882 158872 = 252428544 252396769 = 31775, an odd number Apart from these, the property shall also be easily derived by the natural numbers properties. As the difference between two consecutive numbers is 1, the natural number property The sum of odd and even natural numbers is always odd, shall be applied to prove this property. The difference between squares of any two alternative natural numbers is always even. Proof: Column D2 proves this property. This may also be verified for big numbers by considering different digit natural numbers as discussed above. Apart from this, as the difference between two alternate natural numbers is 2, the natural numbers property A natural number said to be even if it is a multiple of two shall also be used for proving the stated property. The difference between squares of any two natural numbers is either odd or even, depending upon the difference between the numbers. Proof: The other columns of Table 1 prove this property. In Table 1, as D3 represents the sequence formed by the difference between two natural numbers whose difference is 3, an odd number, the sequence is also odd. Thus, the property may be proved by testing the other Columns D4, D5, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Also, the addition, subtraction and multiplication properties of natural numbers prove this property. Example: 112 62 Here the difference (11 6 = 5) is odd. So, the result will be odd. i.e. 112 62 = 121 36 = 85, an odd number 122 82 Here the difference (12 8 = 4) is even. So, the result will be even. i.e. 122 82 = 144 64 = 80, an even number 3.4. Special Properties of the difference between squares of the two natural numbers Table 1 also facilitates to find some special properties stated below. Sequence Difference Property Table 1 shows that the sequences formed are following a number pattern with a common property between them. Let us consider the number sequences of each column. Thus the difference between the elements of the sequence shall be expressed as, 2 x 1. Thus, Difference = 2(a b) Now, let us consider the second column D2 elements. That is a b = 2 If we consider the difference between the elements in the sequence, the difference is 4. Thus, the difference between the elements in the sequence shall be expressed as 2 x 2. That is, difference = 2 (a b) In the same way, D3: 15, 21, 27, 33, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ D3 represents the difference between squares of the 4th and 1st numbers, difference is 3. That is a b = 3 The difference between the numbers in the sequence is 6. Thus, difference = 2 x 3 = 2(a b) All other columns also show that the difference between the numbers in the corresponding sequence is 2 (a b) Thus, this may be generalized as following property: The difference between elements of the number sequence, formed by the difference between any two natural numbers, is equal to two times of the difference between those corresponding natural numbers. Difference Sum Property: From Table 1, we shall also identify another relationship between the elements of the sequence formed. Let us consider the columns from table 1 other than D1. Consider D2: 8, 12, 16, 20, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ This sequence shall be formed by adding two numbers of Column D1. i.e. 8 = 3 + 5 12 = 5 + 7 16 = 7 + 9 20 = 9 + 11 And so on. Thus, if the difference between the natural numbers taken is 2, then the number sequence of the difference between the two natural numbers shall be formed by adding 2 natural numbers. Consider D3: 15, 21, 27, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ This sequence shall be formed by adding three numbers from Column D1. i.e. 15 = 3 + 5 + 7 21 = 5 + 7 + 9 27 = 7 + 9 + 11 And so on. Thus, if the difference between the natural numbers taken is 3, then the number sequence of the difference between the two natural numbers shall be formed by adding 3 natural numbers. This may also be verified with respect to the other columns. Table 2 shows the above relationship between the differences of the squares of the natural numbers. Now the above relation shall be generalized as If a b = k > 1, then a2 b2 shall be written as the sum of k natural numbers As Column D1 elements are odd natural numbers, this property may be defined as If a b = k > 1, then a2 b2 shall be written as the sum of k odd natural numbers As these odd numbers are consecutive, the property may be further precisely defined as: If a b = k > 1, then a2 b2 shall be written as the sum of k consecutive odd natural numbers 3.5. New Method to find the difference between squares of two natural numbers Using the above difference sum property, the difference between squares of two natural numbers shall be found as follows. The property shows that, a2 b2 is equal to sum of k consecutive odd numbers. Now, the principal idea is to find those k consecutive odd numbers. Let us consider two natural numbers, say 7 and 10. The difference between them 10 7 = 3 Thus, 102 72 = sum of three consecutive odd numbers. 102 72 = 100 49 = 51 Now, 51 = Sum of 3 consecutive odd numbers i.e., 51 = 15 + 17 + 19 Let we try to find these 3 numbers with respect to either the first number, let us say, a or the second number, say, b. Assume, for b As general form for odd numbers is either (2n + 1) or (2n 1), as b 15 = 2(7) + 1 = 2b + 1 17 = 2(7) + 3 = 2b + 3 19 = 2(7) + 5 = 2b + 5 Thus, 102 72 shall be written as the sum of 3 consecutive odd numbers starting from 15. i.e. starting from 2b + 1 This idea may also be applied for higher digit numbers. Let us consider two 3 digit numbers, 101 and 105. Let us find 1052 1012 Here the difference is 4. Thus 1052 1012 shall be written as the sum of 4 consecutive odd numbers. The numbers shall be found as follows: Here b = 101 The first odd number = 2b + 1 = 2(101) + 1 = 203 Thus, the 4 consecutive odd numbers are: 203, 205, 207, 209 So, 1052 1012 = 203 + 205 + 207 + 209 = 824 This shall be verified for any number of digits. Let us consider two 6 digit numbers 100519, 100521. Let us find 1005212 1005192 Here the difference is 2. Thus 1005212 1005192 shall be written as the sum of two odd numbers. Applying the same idea, The first odd number = 2(100519) + 1 = 201039 Thus the 2 consecutive odd numbers are: 201039, 201041 1005212 1005192 = 201039 + 201041 = 402080 The above result shall be verified by using other methods. For example: 1052 1012 1052 1012 = 11025 10201 = 824 (Using Direct Method) 1052 1012 = (105 + 101) (105 101) = 206 x 4 = 824 (Using Algebraic Rule) Thus, this idea shall be generalized as follows: a2 b2shall be found by adding the (a b) consecutive odd numbers starting from 2b + 1 This shall also be found using the first term a. As a > b, let us consider (2n 1) form of odd numbers. From Table 1, 102 62 = 13 + 15 + 17 + 19 = 64 Here, 2a 1 = 2(10) 1 = 19 2a 3 = 2(10) 3 = 17 2a 5 = 2(10) 5 = 15 2a 7 = 2(10) 7 = 13 Thus, as the difference between the numbers is 4, 102 62 shall be written as the sum of four consecutive odd numbers in reverse order starting from 2a 1. Thus proceeding, this may be generalized as, a2 b2shall be found by adding the (a b) consecutive odd numbers starting from 2a 1 in reverse order Finding the first number of each column Let us check the number pattern followed by the first numbers of each column. The difference between two consecutive terms of this sequence is 5, 7, 9 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ i.e. D2 D1 = 8 3 = 5; D3 D2 = 7; D4 D3 = 9 and so on. As D2 represents the difference between two alternate natural numbers, (say a and b) which implies that the difference between a and b is 2. Now, 5 = 2 (2) +1 i.e. 2 times of the difference between the numbers + 1 In the same idea, D3 D2 = 15 8 = 7 As D3 represents the difference between squares of the 4th and 1st natural numbers, (say a and b) which implies that the difference between a and b is 3. Thus, 7 = 2(3) + 1 This also shows that the difference shall be found by = 2 times of the difference between the numbers + 1 Thus, The first term of the each column shall be found by adding the previous column first term with 2 times of the difference between the numbers + 1 Finding the elements row wise The elements of the table shall also be formed in row wise. If we check the elements of each row, we can find that they follow a number pattern sequence with some property. Let us consider the elements of row when N = 5: 20, 40, 60, 80 20 = 2 x 5 x 2 Here, 5 represent the row natural number. 2 represent the difference between the elements using which the column is formed. Thus Row element = 2 x N x difference In the same way, 40 = 2 x 5 x 4 = 2 x N x difference Thus, the elements shall be formed by the rule: Row Element = 2 x N x difference This shall be applied for middle rows also. For example, let us consider the row between 5 6: The elements in this intermediate row are: 11, 33, 55, 77, 99 Here N is the mid value of 5 6. i.e. N = 5.5 Let us consider the elements and apply the above stated rule. 11 = 2 x N x difference = 2 x 5.5 x 1 In the same way other elements shall also be formed. Thus the elements of the table shall be formed in row wise using the stated rule. Rhombus Rule Relation Let us consider the elements in D2, D3 and D4. Consider the elements in the rhombus drawn, 24, 33, 39 and 48 24 + 48 = 72 33 + 39 = 72 Thus the sums of the elements in the opposite corners are equal. The other column elements also prove the same. Thus, Rhombus Rule Relation: Sum of the elements the same row of the sequence of alternative columns is equal to the sum of the two elements in the intermediate column Application of the Properties in Finding the Square of a number The square of a natural number shall be found by various methods. Here is one of the suggested methods. This method uses nearest 10s and 100s to find the square of a number. This method is also based on the algebraic formula a2 b2 = (a b)(a + b) If a > b, b2 = a2 (a2 b2) If b > a, b2 = a2 + (b2 a2) Example: Square of 32 As we need to find 322, let us assume b = 32. The nearest multiple of 10 is 30. Let a = 30 Here b > a. b2 = a2 + (b2 a2) 322 = 302 + (322 302) Using the Difference Sum Property, 322 = 900 + 61 + 63 = 1024 Example 2: Square of 9972 Let b = 997 Nearest multiple 10 is 1000. Let a = 1000 Here a > b, so b2 = a2 (a2 b2) 9972 = 10002 (10002 9972) Using Difference Sum Property, 9972 = 1000000 (1995 + 1997 + 1999) = 994009 Conclusion Though this method shall be applied to find the difference between squares of any two natural numbers, if the difference is big, it will be cumbersome. Thus, this method shall be used for finding the difference between squares of any two natural numbers where the difference is manageable. The properties shall be used for easy calculation. This properties and approach shall be introduced in secondary school lower grade levels, to make the students to identify the number patterns. This approach will surely help the students to understand the properties of squares, difference and natural numbers. The new approach will surely help the students in developing their reasoning skills. Limitations As number systems, number patterns and arithmetic operations have wide applications in various fields, the above properties, rules and relations shall be further studied intensively based on the requirements. Thus, new properties and relations shall be identified and discussed with respect to other nations.

The Effects of Stress, Alcohol Outcome Expectancies, Gender, Coping Styles, and Family Alcoholism on Alcohol Consumption Abstract One large component of American popular culture today is alcohol. A common stereotype for the effects of alcohol is that as a drug it acts as a stress antagonist. This theory was introduced by Conger (1956) as the Tension Reduction Hypothesis (TRW). It states that alcohol's sedative action on the central nervous system serves to reduce tension, and because tension reduction is reinforcing, people drink to escape it (Marlatt & Rehsenow, 1980). Why do we drink, when do we drink, and how much do we drink? This research will determine the correlation between total weekly consumption of alcohol and perceived stress, alcohol outcome expectancies, gender, coping styles, and family history of alcoholism among undergraduate students. Do people drink more or less when stressed? Do alcohol outcome expectancies lead to higher or lower consumption? Is a history of family alcoholism positively or negatively correlated to personal consumption? Do the tested variables play mediating or moderating roles in stress-related drinking? This research will determine the answers to these questions, and determine the strength of the correlations, if any. Introduction The main question that this statistical model will answer is as follows: Is there any correlation between drinking and gender, alcohol expectancies, family alcoholism, stress, and coping styles? Gender It has been demonstrated that significant differences exist between the drinking patterns of men and women (Hilton, 1988). In a survey of US drinking habits conducted in 1988 by the US National Center for Health Statistics, Dawson and Archer (1992) showed that there are three areas illustrating gender differences. The first is the actual number of male and female drinkers. The study showed that 64% of men versus 41% of women were current drinkers. Section 1: Identify the Firm’s Core Strategy * The core strategy for the Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) to produce both carbonated soft drinks and noncarbonated beverages that are tasty and appealing to their range of customers, while making a profit and continually growing. They are able to do this by using some key elements in their business strategy. They focus on building and enhancing their existing leading brands, such as Dr Pepper and their Snapple drinks.They also must focus on opportunities in high growth and high margin categories. They strive to increase their presence in high margin channels and packages. DPS also leverages their integrated business model. They must strengthen their route-to-market through acquisitions. Finally, they are also focusing on improving their operation efficiency. Section 2: External Analysis (Opportunities & Threats) * An opportunity DPS has is that they are able to keep strong relationships with their direct customers, which are the distributors and the retailers.With the opportunities to sell their syrups directly to fast food restaurants they are going to be generating a steady profit for many years to come and as food is still a thriving business. * Another opportunity would be that they could hopefully start bottling more of their products in house so that they aren’t giving business to their two main competitors. They could grow the bottling business and start utilizing their own facilities. A threat for DPS is that when the cost of sugar rises they are negatively affected because they then have to raise their prices and when they do less people are able to buy their products due to the economic state throughout the country. People who are unemployed or making less money due to the cut economic downturn will first cut spending on items that are not needed and they will turn to less expensive drinks. * Another threat is that health and wellness are trending right now and wit h people reducing their caloric intake they are no longer using DPS products that are packed with sugar.Section 3: Internal Analysis (Strengths and Weaknesses) * A strength that DPS has is that they have a very strong management team that sets out goals for their employees and goals for the company. They are not only known for their products but are also recognized for their philanthropy and ethics. * Another strength is that DPS is able to revamp existing brands to gain market shares along with losing brands and replacing them with successful replacements that are in new avenues such as flavored waters and energy drinks, which help gain market share also. A weakness is that the majority of their bottling is done by their two competitors, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, which does not help DPS when competing to be at the top of the industry. They are practically giving away business that they should start doing themselves. * Another weakness DPS has is their finances. Their profits are not c onsistently growing; they took a big hit in 2008 and are still trying to recover. Slowly but surely they are increasing, however it needs to be happening much faster in order for them to stay a contender in the industry.Section 4: Strategic Recommendations * I think that DPS should stick to what they know and that is the beverage industry. I don’t think jumping into the snack business would help them grow any faster. * I think they should start expanding their bottling unit of the business and stop relying on their competitors for bottling contracts. * They need to keep promoting their big sellers such as, Dr Pepper, Sunkist, A&W, and Snapple, along with producing some lower-calorie beverages for the more health conscious customers out there.
